To me, high school has been many things.
High school has stripped me of all I ever thought that I was, and all that I thought I ever would be to be completely honest. You do things you swear you never will, you become a person you swear you'd never become, you say things you swore would never come out of your mouth, and so much more.
This may not be the case for everyone but for me it was. I always thought I was a confident young girl. Strong in her faith, ready to take on the world around her. That all changed once I reached high school. I became an insecure fish in the sea. I swam the same way as every other kid who walked those halls. I blended in. That confident young girl didn't really have that uniqueness to her anymore. I blended in and became "one of them."
High school had it's ups, it had it's downs and it taught SO many lessons on along the way.
What I WILL miss about high school:
1. The TRUE friends that I have spent the last 12 years with.
This is something that is hard for me as this is a serious change. Although I am staying local for a year or two for my first years of college, a lot of my friends are not. The people who have been by my side through the good and the bad of the last 12 years of my life. This is something that really hits home with me and I'm truly going to miss those people.
2. My relationships with the adults that I was surrounded by.
Some of the teachers at my school, the guidance counselors, and the security guards I made some wonderful friendships with. I will never forget the teachers who have been pushing me to become my best, and who have worked with me through my struggles and have really just listened to me. The ones who seek to understand and adjust to anything.
3. The Sporting Events.
The sports was one of my favorite parts of high school. I LOVED to attend all of them. I cheered at basketball and football so I always had a front row seat to those games and I was a huge fan of soccer since I was a freshman. I would always attend the boys soccer games.
4. The taste of freedom.
High school was really the first time I've kind of been learning to do things on my own as more of a grown up. This was a huge step for me but something that I truly enjoyed. I learned how to drive, got my first car, got my first credit card, etc. Things like this really helped me to feel like I was capable of doing things on my own.
5. The involvement.
Where I go to school it is hard not to be plugged in. I cheered two our of four years at my high school and this was something that I truly enjoyed doing. It was such an outlet for me. I was also apart of Link Crew where I met some awesome people and friends.
Things that I will NOT miss:
1. Being late to school on an almost daily basis.
I am that student that comes rushing into class seconds after the bell, gasping for air (since my school is the length of 3 football fields and just having climbed flights upon flights of stairs) with her backpack on, keys in hand and trying to make out the words, "Can I go to my locker really quick?" I will not miss that for sure. I will also not miss coming up with funny excuses to stick on the late passes when some teachers were less lenient about letting me in late.
2. I will NOT miss how fast word spreads like wild fire.
High school students are like wolves. They feed of a drama and the latest details. Whose talking to who, who did what, what kind of trouble those kids are in and the list could go on forever. This is one thing that I truly did not like and this is one thing that I CANNOT wait to get away from.
3. The school lunches.
I have about two school lunches that I thoroughly enjoy. One of them being dominos day because it's pizza and you can't go wrong with pizza... plus the school did not make it so theres that. My other favorite was the chicken sandwich with the ever so classy name, "The Clux Deluxe." This was the closest thing you would get to chick-fil-a in a school cafeteria and it barely matched up to what chicken is supposed to look like but we ate it anyway. That came with french fries as well and I must hand it to the lunch ladies... those fries are fantastic so I suggest ya keep em' comin!
4. Girls.
Enough said right? Not all girls are your best friends.
5. Boys.
Again... Enough said. I don't think elaboration is needed except for LEARN HOW TO RESPECT GIRLS.
What has high school taught me? It's taught me that you walked in those doors alone, and the day you leave that school for the last time, you are going to walk out alone as well. You are not here for anyone else. You are mainly here because this is where your parents chose to live lol... but really. You are here for you. You don't need to prove anything to anyone, you don't need to be what anyone tells you to be.
Drinking and drugs are POINTLESS. You might feel left out after all those party pictures are posted on instagram the next morning but do those two girls pictured together really ever talk? No. They have one thing in common and thats the liquid in their cups. Take that away, and would they still be taking the same picture? Probably not because when they aren't completely wasted, they have nothing to talk about.
Don't let what others say about you affect you. I know that is hard because I take everything people say to heart but in all honesty, when you leave this place what is it going to matter what he/she said about you? It won't. The second you leave this place and start new, these people that you pass in the hallway everyday or say things about you are not going to matter. That's just fact.
This is basically what I've taken away from high school. As you can tell my senioritis has kicked in and i'm more then ready to graduate!!!
